About
Kaigaku began life with nothing — an orphan who stole scraps and drank dirty water to see another day, taken in among the children of a mountain temple watched over by the Stone Hashira. When a demon came in the night, he made the choice that would define his whole life: he bargained for his own survival and let the creature inside, and every other child in the temple paid the price. Placed afterward under Jigoro Kuwajima, the former Thunder Hashira, he trained in Thunder Breathing alongside Zenitsu Agatsuma and mastered every form except the First — the foundation of the style, and the one technique his pride refused to kneel to.
When a mission put him in the path of Upper Moon One, Kaigaku chose survival one more time: he groveled before Kokushibo and accepted demon blood without hesitation. His transformation broke the master who had named him a successor, and Jigoro's seppuku followed soon after — grief Kaigaku would one day greet with a smirk. Stepping into the vacancy left by two slain Upper Moons, he rose to Upper Moon Six under Muzan Kibutsuji, his breathing style now fused with a black lightning Blood Demon Art. The apprentice who could not master the First Form had become a monster even his old style could barely recognize.
Abilities
Thunder Breathing
A style he wielded with genuine brilliance — every form from Second through Sixth, sharpened under the former Thunder Hashira. Only the First Form, the root of it all, ever escaped him, and that single gap became the crack his entire life folded along.
Blood Demon Art: Black Lightning
As a demon, Kaigaku's flesh generates black lightning, an aberrant current that rides his sword strokes and detonates through everything it touches. Thunder Breathing and Moon Breathing are the only styles ever fused with a Blood Demon Art — a distinction he shares with the very being who turned him.
Demon Transformation
Upper Moon flesh grants what his human body never could: wounds that knit in moments, strength and speed far past his old peak, and the kanji for Upper Six carved in his eyes. Even unarmed, claws and fangs keep him lethal.
Lightning-quick Swordsmanship
His strokes emphasize draw speed and explosive single cuts — the natural complement to his breathing style. Augmented by demon blood, his blade moves fast enough that black lightning trails the steel rather than follows it.
Cunning & Survival Instinct
The thread running through his entire life: read the situation, weigh the odds, and choose survival without a heartbeat of hesitation. It let a temple orphan outlive a massacre, a Slayer walk away from Upper Moon One, and a traitor climb into the Twelve Kizuki.
Pride & Provocation
Arrogance honed into a weapon of its own. He belittles and taunts, pressing every psychological advantage — most cruelly against Zenitsu, whose grief he greets with relief and mockery — unbalancing opponents before the blades ever cross.
Notable battles
Kaigaku's story is a chain of survivable betrayals. As a temple orphan he opened the gate to a demon in exchange for his own life, dooming the children who slept beside him. Years later a mission threw him into the path of Upper Moon One, and he groveled, accepted Kokushibo's blood, and abandoned the Corps — the choice that drove his master to take his own life in shame. Reborn as Upper Moon Six, he met his reckoning in the Infinity Castle: Zenitsu Agatsuma, the junior he had always scorned, confronted him with Jigoro's death, received only mockery, and answered with a form no one had ever taught him — Thunder Breathing, Seventh Form: Honoikazuchi no Kami, a self-made flash of godlike speed that took Kaigaku's head. He died protesting that their master had simply played favorites, one more Upper Moon erased from Muzan's board as the war Tanjiro Kamado would help finish closed in around the king of demons.
