About
Akaza was once a human named Hakuji, the son of a sickly father in Edo-era Japan. Arrested again and again for stealing money to buy medicine, he was branded a criminal and taken in by Keizo, master of the Soryu Style dojo, whose gentle daughter Koyuki slowly taught the violent boy kindness. Hakuji devoted himself to the martial art and to his new family, swearing to become strong enough to protect them. But when a rival dojo poisoned Keizo and Koyuki, he annihilated every swordsman in it with his bare hands — and in that moment of pure loss, Muzan Kibutsuji found him and made him a demon, erasing every memory of the life he had failed to save.
Reborn with his past wiped clean, Akaza climbed to Upper Moon Three and held the rank for over a century, devoting himself to a single obsession: strength. He despises cowardice and trickery, honors brave opponents even as he cuts them down, and has never once devoured a woman — a moral echo of the man he used to be. Even Muzan's scorn could not bend him; he spent that century hunting the strongest swordsmen of every generation, determined to prove his fists stand above any blade. Yet beneath the blue stripes lies an ache he cannot name — Koyuki's smile beneath the falling snow, a family he could not protect, and a promise that has followed him for a hundred years.

Notable battles
On the Mugen Train, Akaza unleashed his Destructive Death against the Flame Hashira, Rengoku Kyojuro, and even as dawn threatened he fought on until the brave swordsman fell — offering him demonhood in a twisted salute to his strength. In the Infinity Castle he battled the Water Hashira Giyu Tomioka and Tanjiro Kamado, a young swordsman who refused to stay down no matter how many times his body broke. As their duel raged, a blade and a cry cut deeper than flesh: memories of Koyuki, Keizo, and the promise under the snow came flooding back. Choosing love over power at last, Akaza turned his own annihilation technique upon himself, dying as Hakuji — a final defeat that was, in truth, a homecoming.
