About
Shoot McMahon is one of Morel Mackernasey's two disciples, alongside his partner Knuckle Bine. He is, on paper, exactly the kind of Hunter you would want on a Chimera Ant extermination team: experienced, Nen-trained, and equipped with a unique conjured ability. In practice, he arrives at the Chimera Ant war carrying something heavier — a deep, lifelong fear of violence that has shadowed him since childhood and that he has spent his entire adult life trying to outrun.
That fear is the central tension of Shoot's character. Unlike Knuckle, who charges headfirst into every fight with a loud mouth and a soft heart, Shoot is quiet, hesitant, and visibly uncomfortable with the act of hurting another living thing. He has the skill to fight — and the strength to win — but for most of his life he would freeze at the moment that mattered most. The war against the Chimera Ants is, for him, less a mission than a test: can he finally become the kind of person who pulls the trigger when the world demands it?
By the end of the arc, the answer is yes. Shoot throws himself against Youpi, the Royal Guard, in a battle he knows he cannot win, simply to buy his team seconds of time. The fight nearly kills him — he loses an arm in the process — but in the moment of his near-death he discovers the courage that had always eluded him. He returns from the Chimera Ant war a different man: still quiet, still gentle, but no longer afraid of the fight he was born into.
Abilities
Hotel Rafelsen
His signature Conjuration. He summons a floating swarm of detached hands, plus a cage-like container, that can seize an opponent's body parts and trap them inside — effectively imprisoning pieces of his enemy in a conjured hotel.
Conjuration Nen
His natural Nen category. He creates physical objects from aura with strict rules, allowing Hotel Rafelsen to function as a permanent prison for whatever he manages to capture.
Hand-to-Hand Combat
Though he dislikes violence, he is a trained close-quarters fighter, capable of keeping pace with Chimera Ant officers and even landing strikes on Royal Guard Youpi with the help of his floating hands.
Bravery (Forged)
Not a Nen ability, but the trait he developed across the Chimera Ant arc — the willingness to stand and fight despite overwhelming fear, the quality that ultimately made him worthy of the team he served on.
Notable battles
Shoot's defining battle is his stand against Youpi, the Royal Guard, inside the Chimera Ant palace. Together with Knuckle, he was assigned to occupy Youpi while the rest of the infiltration team pursued their separate objectives. Outmatched in nearly every dimension, Shoot was battered, broken, and nearly killed — yet refused to retreat, repeatedly re-engaging Youpi even after losing an arm. The battle ended only when Youpi, impressed by the humans' resolve, voluntarily chose to let them live. It was, in its own strange way, a victory that Shoot had won not with strength but with the courage he had spent a lifetime searching for.
