Kabuto Yakushi was found as an orphaned amnesiac on a battlefield after the Battle of Kikyo Pass and adopted by Nonou Yakushi, the chief medical ninja of Konoha's orphanage. Raised as her son and trained as a medical ninja, he was eventually recruited as a child spy by Danzo Shimura's Root division — used as a disposable intelligence asset for years until he no longer knew whose side he was on. Broken and lost, he was taken in by Orochimaru, the only person who ever seemed to value him for who he was rather than what he could steal. From that moment he devoted his life to Orochimaru's vision, eventually surpassing his master in every field — perfecting the Edo Tensei beyond anything Orochimaru had achieved, mastering Snake Sage Mode at the Ryuchi Cave, and reanimating an entire army of legendary shinobi to fight the Allied Shinobi Forces. Itachi Uchiha finally trapped him in Izanami — a jutsu designed to repeat a moment forever until the victim accepts who they truly are — and Kabuto, after years of running from his own identity, finally chose to be himself.

Surpassed even Orochimaru's mastery of the Reanimation Jutsu — perfected the technique to bring back dozens of legendary shinobi simultaneously, including Madara Uchiha himself, fully under his control.
Snake Sage Mode
Mastered Sage Mode at the Ryuchi Cave, gaining natural chakra and snake-like abilities — faster reflexes, enhanced perception, and the ability to use Sage jutsu without hand signs.
Medical Ninjutsu
Raised by Konoha's chief medical ninja and refined under Orochimaru — his Cell Activation Technique can heal almost any wound, and he can even restart a stopped heart in mid-battle.
Tayuya Sound Flute
Reanimated Tayuya of the Sound Four and absorbed her abilities — uses her demon-flute genjutsu to trap multiple enemies in nightmares they cannot break free from alone.
Notable battles
Kabuto's defining fights span the entire second half of the series. He first revealed his true strength against Tsunade and Shizune during the Search for Tsunade arc, where he nearly killed the future Fifth Hokage using his medical knowledge against her — disrupting the electrical signals of her nervous system to disable her movements. He fought Naruto in the same arc and was nearly killed by the boy's first Rasengan, only surviving by healing mid-flight. Years later, after Orochimaru's death, he grafted his master's remains into his own body and traveled the world absorbing the abilities of Orochimaru's former experiments. In the Fourth Great Ninja War, he unleashed his perfected Edo Tensei on the Allied Shinobi Forces — reanimating Madara Uchiha, the former Hokage, the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist, the former jinchuriki, and many others. His final battle against Itachi and Sasuke Uchiha ended in his defeat — trapped inside Izanami, repeating the same moment of his own indecision until he finally accepted his true self.
