About
Jiraiya was one of the three Legendary Sannin of the Hidden Leaf Village, the Toad Sage of Mount Myoboku, and the master who single-handedly shaped two Hokage — Minato Namikaze, the Fourth Hokage, and Naruto Uzumaki, the Seventh Hokage. As a young man he was a self-proclaimed pervert, peeping at women in bathhouses to research his Icha Icha romance novels, but underneath that ridiculous exterior lived one of the most profound minds in the entire series. The Great Toad Sage of Mount Myoboku had prophesied that Jiraiya would travel the world, write a book, and train a Child of Destiny who would either save or destroy the world — and Jiraiya spent his entire life trying to live up to that prophecy. He trained the Ame Orphans (Nagato, Yahiko, and Konan) out of mercy, raised Minato out of duty, and took Naruto under his wing out of love. He died facing his own student Pain in the rain-soaked streets of Amegakure, his last act on earth a coded message carved into a toad's back so Konoha could win the war he could not.
Abilities
Sage Mode
Combines his own chakra with natural energy gathered by the two elder toads Fukasaku and Shima on his shoulders, drastically boosting his strength, speed, and ninjutsu to a level only the truly legendary can match.
Rasengan
He learned the Rasengan from his student Minato Namikaze — a sphere of pure chakra spinning in his palm that requires no hand signs and tears through almost anything it touches.
Toad Summoning
By signing a blood contract with the toads of Mount Myoboku, he can summon giant toads like Gamabunta, Gamaken, and the elder sages to fight alongside him in battle.
Toad Oil Flame
His signature combination jutsu — spews highly flammable toad oil from his mouth that clings to anything, then ignites it with a fire release jutsu for an inextinguishable inferno.
Notable battles
Jiraiya's defining fights span the entire series. As a young man he fought Hanzo the Salamander alongside Tsunade and Orochimaru — a battle they technically lost but in which Hanzo was so impressed he named them the Three Legendary Sannin on the spot. He faced Orochimaru twice — once when his old teammate betrayed Konoha, and again years later when he, Tsunade, and Shizune held off Orochimaru and Kabuto. His final and most legendary battle was against his own former student Pain in the rain-drenched streets of Amegakure. There he uncovered the secret of the Six Paths of Pain — recognizing the corpses as the Ame orphans he had once trained — and chose to face all six paths alone rather than flee. He lost his arm, killed one of the Paths, carved a coded message onto the back of a toad, and sank into the ocean depths with a smile, knowing Naruto would one day carry his dream home.
