About
Roronoa Zoro is the swordsman of the Straw Hat Pirates and Luffy’s first crewmate, raised in Shimotsuki Village in the East Blue. After losing a childhood promise with his rival Kuina, who died young, he vowed to become the greatest swordsman in the world, and he has trained ever since to keep that promise.
A former pirate hunter, he joined Luffy after being freed from a marine base, and has since become the crew’s strongest fighter and its first mate in all but title. Stoic, loyal, and famously prone to getting lost, Zoro carries three swords and one goal, and follows his captain anywhere, even through hell itself.
Abilities
Three-Sword Style
Santoryu: Zoro wields one sword in each hand and one in his mouth, combining all three into devastating, sweeping attacks.
Wado Ichimonji
The white-hilted katana of his childhood friend Kuina; he holds it as a promise to become the world’s greatest swordsman.
Enma & Shusui
Black blades with great power: Enma drains Haki to boost its cut, and Shusui is a legendary sword taken from Wano.
Haki
Master of Armament Haki that coats his blades in black, and an awakened Conqueror’s Haki that strengthens his strikes.
Asura
A fearsome nine-sword illusion that unleashes three heads and six arms with a single shadow of terrifying power.
Unbreakable Will
Immense stamina and an iron will let him fight through wounds that would fell anyone else, never letting his captain down.
Notable battles
Zoro’s duels include his first defeat by Dracule Mihawk at Baratie, his victory over Daz Bonez (Mr. 1) in Alabasta, his clash with Kaku at Enies Lobby, his fight against Pica in Dressrosa, and his battle against King in Wano — each pushing him closer to the title of world’s greatest swordsman.
