About
Kankuro is the second child of the Fourth Kazekage of Sunagakure, the middle sibling between Temari and Gaara, and one of the greatest puppet masters the Sand Village has ever produced. As a child growing up in the shadow of his father's failed experiment — a youngest brother turned into a weapon and feared by the entire village — Kankuro wore the painted face of a kabuki performer and hid his insecurities behind a loud mouth and a workshop full of lethal puppets. He trained under Sasori before the rogue ninja abandoned Sunagakure, inheriting the puppet craft that would define his career. Over the years he evolved from a hot-tempered genin into a composed jonin, then into the most trusted advisor to his little brother Gaara when Gaara became Kazekage. His loyalty to his family — and especially to the brother he once feared — became the spine of Sunagakure's recovery after the war, and his refusal to abandon Sasori's legacy even after fighting its creator himself turned the puppet art into something the village could finally be proud of.

The signature jutsu of Sunagakure's puppeteers — extends chakra strings from his fingertips to control puppets at a distance, manipulating multiple puppets simultaneously with intricate fingerwork.
Crow (Karasu)
His first and most versatile puppet — a humanoid figure loaded with hidden blades, poison needles, gas bombs, and removable limbs that can be recombined into countless weapon configurations.
Black Ant & Salamander
His tactical trio — Black Ant is a capture puppet that locks enemies inside its body for Crow to dismember, while Salamander is a defensive puppet that shields him with an iron shell.
Sasori (Hiruko)
After defeating Sasori in the Sasuke Retrieval Arc, Kankuro claimed his former master's puppet body as his own — adding Sasori himself to his arsenal, completing the circle of master and student.
Notable battles
Kankuro's defining fights trace his growth from hot-headed genin to legendary jonin. During the Chunin Exams he effortlessly dismantled Misumi Tsurugi by allowing himself to be wrapped around by the enemy's flexible body, then crushing him inside his Crow puppet's joints. In the Sasuke Retrieval Arc he faced Sakon and Ukon of the Sound Four, defeating the cellular-fusion twins with a perfectly executed Black Ant trap that would later be remembered as one of the finest tactical uses of puppets in the series. Years later, during the Kazekage Rescue Arc, he faced the reanimated Sasori himself — and was nearly killed by his own former master's poison, only surviving thanks to Sakura's antidote. In the Fourth Great Ninja War he commanded the Surprise Attack Division of the Allied Shinobi Forces, defeated the reanimated Sasori with the very same puppet body Sasori had once inhabited, and freed his master's soul by reminding him that his true legacy lived on in Kankuro's hands.
