About
Monkey D. Garp is a Vice Admiral of the Marines and the man known as the Hero of the Marines. He is also the grandfather of Monkey D. Luffy and the father of Monkey D. Dragon, a family that has shaken the world from three different directions.
Loud, stubborn, and fiercely independent, Garp has always done things his own way. He turned down the rank of Admiral again and again, preferring to remain free to follow his own sense of justice, and his long rivalry with Gol D. Roger made him a legend on both sides of the law.

Notable battles
Garp's most famous rivalry is with Gol D. Roger, the Pirate King, whom he faced many times in the years before Roger's death. He also takes part in the war at Marineford, one of the most important battles of the series, and his bond with Luffy and Ace gives that war a personal side few others have.
